Australian Group Races are the highest class of thoroughbred race in Australian racing. The most recognised group races in Australia are the Melbourne Cup, Caulfield Cup, Golden slipper and WS Cox Plate, which are all Group 1 races.

Group races total over 540+ races each year which works out around 2-3% of total races held each season in Australia.

Group races are divided into 4 categories;
Group 1 - at least $250,000 prizemoney - 60+ races per season
Group 2 - at least $125,000 prizemoney - 80+ races per season
Group 3 - at least $75,000 prizemoney - 110+ races per season
Listed - at least $50,000 prizemoney - 280+ races per season

The Australian horse racing season runs from August to July each year and we have listed all the Group 1 and Group 2 races on the racing calendar.

The Caulfied Autumn Classic is a Group 2 Australian thoroughbred horse race held under open set weight conditions, for horses aged 3 years, over a distance of 1800m. This Group 2 race is held in late February early March each year as part of the autumn racing season. Taking place on the same day as the Group one Futurity Stakes, the Caulfied Autumn Classic is the second race of the day.

It is held at Caulfield Racecourse in Melbourne, Australia.

The Caulfield Autumn Classic has had 7 names to be exact, but every few years reverts back to its most common name, the Caulfield Autumn Classic.
